ANA’s story
Ana Llorente was born and raised in Havana City, Cuba. From a very young age, she developed a deep passion for dance, taking her first steps at the age of 6. Coming from a family of musicians, composers, dancers, teachers, and choreographers, Ana found unconditional support in her parents, which has been fundamental to her artistic career.
Her childhood was marked by the Latin and Afro-Cuban music that resonated in the neighborhoods and by attending theaters and cultural activities with her mother. The musical influence in her grandparents’ home, with instruments like the trumpet, saxophone, and piano, further enriched her education.
At the age of 8, her father, who worked at the National Institute of Radio and Television, took her to his workplace. There, one of the principal dancers of the Television Ballet Company saw her dancing outside the building and insisted her father to take her to Ballet school. This led to her first audition, which she passed, and began her training at the National Ballet School, where she studied intensively full-time for five years.
At the age of 15, after making tough decisions and with much sacrifice, Ana transitioned to the pre-professional level at the National School of Modern/Contemporary Dance and Folklore. It was there that she took her first steps as a Choreographer, creating and performing her own choreographies. Her education in Cuba was comprehensive, covering Dance, Acting, Singing, Piano, Music Theory, Languages, Art History, Painting, Choreographic composition, Ballet, Cuban and International folklore, Character dances, Cuban popular dances, Philosophy, Pedagogy, Methodology, Kinesiology, other disciplines, including Stagecraft, Technical Theater production, Makeup artistry, and more.
Ana was invited to compete in the most important National invitational competition for Dance school students and joined the eminent Cuban choreographer Rosario Cárdenas, who became her mentor. This choreographic experimentation in the National Modern Dance Company was crucial for her development. In her final year of studies, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba awarded her a National Prize as a Choreographer and Dancer, and she was selected by the Ministry of Culture of Cuba for a Young Choreographers’ Scholarship at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA.
In her professional career, Ana has worked with the National Ballet of the Dominican Republic, Ballet Concerto, and the renowned producer and director of the “Casandra” music awards, Guillermo Cordero. Later, she entered the world of Ballroom Dancing, guided by the world Champion and Broadway producer, Mr. Michael Chapman. This transition, though challenging, significantly changed her artistic trajectory.
As a competitive Ballroom dancer, Ana has won numerous awards, including the World Mambo Championship. She was a finalist in the “Cabaret” division at the United States Open to the World Championships in Blackpool, Holland Open World Championships, and Canada, and she secured second place at the World Argentine Tango Championships and American Rhythm World Championships.
She has traveled abroad competing, training other dancers, and performing in countries such as England, Japan, Holland, Italy, Canada, Greece, Venezuela, the United States, Hong Kong, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Austria. She has given Master Classes in Afro-Cuban dances at Salsa congresses and universities in Israel, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Orlando, New York, Miami, and Atlanta.
Living in Miami, the epicenter of the Latin music and television industry, Ana interacted with the artistic life of film and television, working with renowned artists like Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Johnny Ventura, Celia Cruz, Oscar de León, Sergio Vargas, Vanessa Williams, and Will Smith. She also participated in TV shows like “Sábado Gigante,” “Mira Quién Baila,” “Miss Venezuela,” and the movie “Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights.”
In a moment of infinite grace, Ana gave birth to her beloved daughter Daniela Avanzini, whom she began training in dance at the age of 3. Daniela, under Ana’s guidance, has appeared on shows like “America’s Got Talent,” “Super Kids Europe,” “Sábado Gigante,” and “Dream Academy HQ,” and is a member of the global new Pop music group, KATSEYE established by joint co-operation of Hybe Entertainment and Geffen Records. Other than Daniela’s success, together they have also contributed to non-profit organizations that help children in hospitals and women in need.
Ana has achieved her dream of organizing an International Ballroom Dancing Championship in Cuba called Cuba International Ballroom Champtionships (CIBC) along with her partners Michael Chapman and Emmanuel Pierre Antoine, establishing bridges between Cuban culture and the rest of the world. As a judge of International Ballroom Dance competitions, she has participated in highly recognized events in the USA such as Millennium Dancesport Championships and “Ohio Star Ball,”.
With deep love and dedication, Ana has trained thousands of dancers, leaving a lasting legacy in their lives, especially in children, her favorite students. Her life has been a constant dedication to leaving a positive mark, whether as a teacher, guide, or mentor. Many of her students have pursued successful careers as actors, dancers, singers, choreographers, and teachers, while others have found in her a positive influence in their lives. Her most cherished legacy is her daughter Daniela, the fruit of a life of passion, effort, and success.
